Sewing thread refers to the thread used for stitching textile materials, plastics, leather goods, and binding books and periodicals. Sewing threads are characterized by their sewability, durability, and aesthetic quality. Based on their material composition, sewing threads can generally be categorized into three types: natural fiber, synthetic fiber, and blended. The characteristics of sewing threads also vary depending on their material, giving each type unique properties.

The most commonly used is long-staple pure cotton yarn: it’s made from long-staple cotton through processes such as carding, singeing, and mercerization, and features high-density twisting, giving it superior tensile strength compared to ordinary combed pure cotton. It’s often used for sewing pure cotton garments and other pure cotton fabrics.

Cotton thread: Generally divided into two types—combed and carded. Only 100% pure cotton thread that has been fully combed can be used for sewing. Commonly used counts include 402, 202, and 203. This thread is made from high-quality cotton grown in cotton-producing regions, which has undergone a meticulous combing and singeing process. Cotton thread is often used for sewing garments and other cotton fabrics made entirely of cotton.
